Strictly a move to have a goalkeeper exposed for the expansion draft. It also allows the Canes to negotiate a contract with Alex Nedeljkovic rather than having to tender him (he's a RFA) and have to deal with salary arbitration that may not help with the cap situation. If Dylan Wells sticks around it will most likely be in the AHL or be included with some trade package around draft time.

What did Kenny expect them to do take him for nothing?

They still have to tender Ned a qualifying offer in order to keep his rights, they can just delay that a little bit now and try to avoid arbitration

This just means they don't have to qualify Jeremy Helvig and expose him. they can just let the guy arrested on a domestic battery charge walk.

Can EDM really afford to be trading away Goalies?

They actually have 3 guys further up on the depth chart for potential G spots, so this time yes.
Konovalov
Skinner
Rodrigue

Sure a goalie prospect can be voodoo, but this is one time where the team can walk away from 1 of them. Would have liked to see more than just futures, but it is what it is.
